It was in the year 2010 that Google started developing that so called "self driving car" but later this summer, Google revealed it's prototype of a Self-Driving Car with no Steering Wheel or Pedals on it. Designed to operate safely and autonomously without requiring human intervention, this self-driving vehicle has Google Software and sensors which will do all the works and replaced those steering wheel, accelerator pedal, or brake pedal in ordinary cars.

Based from New Delhi, India, Designer Aditi Singh and university professor Parag Anand, are currently developing Paper-thin Datastickies (Data-that-sticks). As we have remembered, Microsoft has made its windows patch. But last Friday, security experts have found a new worm which took advantage on the added patch, it is called Gimmiv.A. I was excited when i received this news, and as a result i make my own research, actually i have read this from a ThreatExpert Blog.

Here are some of the information about this newly discovered pest.

1. Once this worm is downloaded in a computer with in Local Area Network, it will start to infect other network neighborhood but will not go beyond because of network firewall.
2. After the worm is executed, it will give 3 files: winbase.dll, basesvc.dll and syicon.dll into the system directory
3. It will install and start up a new service called BaseSvc which will force the svchost.exe to load the winbase.dll (serviceDll parameter for BaseSvc). This will show in "Windows NT Baseline" as display name.
4. After then, winbase.dll will start to load 2 DLLs: basesvc.dll and syicon.dll
5. Then after which, the worm will collect the following:
***system information from the infected computer
***collect passwords from the Windows protected storage and Outlook Express passwords cache
***post collected details to a remote host

Is America now definitely suffering financial crisis? leading Microsoft to do this alleged action? Well, i am not a judgmental person but i was informed through the net that some of the employees of Microsoft Corp. were receiving a note saying that Microsoft was reassessing its staffing levels and will not be adding more employees. But Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, announced that they will be hiring Engineers in Norway and other European places for their development on search technology.

In this news, could this be an indication that US financial crisis is now affecting the IT sector? Well, i hope not.

It was reported last September 12 that Yahoo Inc. will spend time and money for the controversial makeover of its Home Page which will happen soon for the next few months. The makeover is said to be their step to regain the supremacy in the internet search marketing which is currently owned by Google Inc and this serve as their preparation for the growing online social communities like Myspace and Facebook.



Yahoo had gained its downturn of profit share for the past two years which give way to Microsoft bid this year which was canceled. Currently, Yahoo is doing their best to regain its stock price which was sank to its lowest rate. Yahoo plans to open up some major design on its homepage which will enable many users to put mini-applications like "widgets" on their personalized home page, as said by Ash Patel, executive vice president of the company's audience product division.

But when is this controversial change happen?

"You will see a rolling thunder kind of thing," Patel said.

I mean nothing on my subject, what i mean is that, does GOOGLE KNOL surpass WIKIPEDIA's supremacy in giving end users knowledge based information and or a great site for student's (like me who always depends on wikipedia) research papers and others?

Well, on my own idea, it will not supersede. Because of some reasons, as i browsed, Google Knol (knol is the basic knowledge according to them), will only permit those users or i may say writers who will show their through identity when they are going to publish some informations. Thus, end users or internet surfers can then justify or trace who are the author of the said information and verify the informations. But this is not the point, as we know, internet is a "know more, know less" medium, what i mean is that you will know more on some data but know less on the author(this happen in some cases). I believe no writers will give their identity, especially putting their pictures on the web.

But if this GOOGLE knol will work out, we, end users will still be the beneficiaries for this another latest innovation in web services.

This primarily benefits all call centers, since this is developed basically for security and privacy purposes. IBM wants "to proactively address a potential threat that can be used in an attack vector in call centers." as stated from J.R. Rao, senior manager of the secure software and services group at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights.

This technology identifies sensitive data and or information through audio recordings and then mask them through white noise, silence or an edited announcement, with this, only authorized personnel can access the said information. This technology has been used already by some call centers but IBM still is still in puzzle if this will be taken as a service for their customers or product.

Bill Gates keynote at Tech·Ed Developers conference at Orlando served as a preview of some of Microsoft's soon to be released technology. Some of the mentioned technologies/data oriented products were; the go live edition of silverlight 2, a new data caching technology and a partnership with IBM, the first Community Technology Preview (CTP) of Velocity, a distributed in-memory application cache platform, and a CTP of the Microsoft Sync Framework for Windows Mobile.

“When I think back on the early days of development when we were all programming in DOS, and then take a look at what we can do now with technologies like the .NET Framework, it simply amazes me how far we’ve come,” Gates stated.

"We are coming back to life now - the recovery took a bit longer than anticipated.
With outages of this type, there is impaired performance after the database recovers. Essentially, it needs to be restored by handling incoming traffic but it takes a while to catch up with demand.
This process is concluding now but the site will be slow for a while longer."

Charlie miller hacked Macbook air at around 2 minutes in a famous PWN 2 OWN (pawn to own) hacking contest. The organizers offered three laptops namely; Sony Vaio, Fujitsu U810, and the MacBook Air as a prize for the said event. Contestants can owned the said laptops if they could hack each system.

On the first day of the contest, nobody can do the hacking. But on Thursday, miller did it with just the said time span. He won the Macbook Air laptop and a cash prize worth $10,000. He was the first contestant attempted to hack the system and was successful. He then signed a Non Disclosure agreement and he is not allowed to discuss anything.

Charlie Miller is the hacker behind Apple Iphone last year.

As i browsed Microsoft's download page, i found out that Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 is definitely available for downloading. And take note, it is available for Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008,Windows Vista x64 Edition and Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition, Window XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP2 and lastly Windows Server 2003 SP2 x64 Edition and Windows XP SP2 Pro x64 Edition ...

One of the issues being raised by some of the IE7 users or even me, is that some of the sites showed in IE7 looked really bad but not with IE6. The reason?

"The reason was that the sites had worked around IE6 issues with content that – when viewed with IE7’s improved Standards mode – looked bad." as stated in microsoft blog.

This is the technical challenge IE team is working on, because for sure what had happened with IE7 and 6 will do the same with IE 8.

"In other words, the technical challenge here is how can IE determine whether a site’s content expects IE8’s Standards mode or IE7’s Standards mode? Given how many sites offer IE very different content today, which should IE8 default to?"

Truely, as a user, i do not like to work with IE7 around, i'd rather love to use IE6 than that. But if this IE8 will work great, why not? Let us give Microsoft a chace.. (lol)..

February 23, 2008 (Computerworld) Hackers are actively exploiting an Internet Explorer plug-in that's widely used by Facebook Inc. and MySpace.com members with a multi-attack kit, a security company warned Friday.

The exploit directed at Aurigma Inc.'s Image Uploader, an ActiveX control used by Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites to allow members to upload photos to their profiles, is just one of five in a new hacker tool kit being used by several Chinese attack sites, said Symantec Corp.

Attacks begin when users receive spam or an instant message with an embedded link, said Darren Kemp, the Symantec analyst who authored the advisory. The link takes users to a bogus MySpace log-in page, which tries to steal members' credentials as it also silently probes the their computers for vulnerabilities in Uploader, Apple Inc.'s QuickTime, Windows and Yahoo Music Jukebox.

Although the Windows and QuickTime bugs were patched eight and 13 months ago, respectively, the Uploader and Yahoo vulnerabilities were made public and fixed only within the past few weeks. Kemp noted the hackers' fast reaction times. "[This demonstrates] how quickly attackers are leveraging new vulnerabilities," said Kemp. "It is unlikely that attackers will stop trying to leverage this vulnerability any time soon."

The Aurigma bug was disclosed at the end of January by researcher Elazar Broad. Shortly after that, a spokeswoman for Facebook and MySpace claimed that the social networking sites were alerting members of the danger. New bugs cropped up a week later, however, forcing Aurigma to again patch the ActiveX control. Not until Feb. 13 did the company claim "Image Uploader is safe again!"

Yahoo Inc. plugged a pair of holes in Music Player on Feb. 6, two days after Broad published attack code for both.

Symantec has been tracking attacks against the Aurigma vulnerabilities most of the month. More than three weeks, ago, for example, another of its analysts reported seeing evidence of a new multi-exploit hacker tool kit -- presumably the same one analyzed by Kemp -- that included an Image Uploader attack.

Exploits against ActiveX controls are nothing unusual; scores of bugs in the Microsoft-made technology were uncovered and exploited in 2007, according to Symantec. It counted 210 ActiveX vulnerabilities in the first half of last year alone, a prime factor in making IE a popular attack target.

In fact, after the Uploader and Yahoo Music Jukebox vulnerabilities were disclosed, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), which is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, recommended that IE users disable ActiveX.

Kemp, however, saw the social networking angle as just as important. "Given the growing popularity of social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook, attacks leveraging vulnerabilities in their client-side components are not surprising," he wrote in the warning.

Symantec urged users to update the Image Uploader ActiveX control to Version 4.5.57.1.

As what Mike Nash of the Windows Vista Team said, "I've personally been running Windows Vista SP1 pretty exclusively for a few months and I've noticed that my systems run faster and more reliably than they did with the "Gold" release of Windows Vista." So, customers who are currently using the Gold version will expect a lot on this upgrade made by Microsoft. As reported, this will be release in the mid-March.

Here's the timing for SP1 availability for current Windows Vista users:

* In mid-March, the team will release Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update (in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese) and to the download center on microsoft.com. Customers who visit Windows Update can choose to install Service Pack 1. If Windows Update determines that the system has one of the drivers the Vista team know to be problematic, then Windows Update will not offer SP1. Since the team know that some customers may want to update to SP1 anyhow, the download center will allow anyone who wants to install SP1 to do so.

* In mid-April, Vista team will begin delivering Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Vista customers who have chosen to have updates downloaded automatically. That said, any system that Windows Update determines has a driver known to not update successfully will not get SP1 automatically. As updates for these drivers become available, they will be installed automatically by Windows Update, which will unblock these systems from getting Service Pack 1. The result is that more and more systems will automatically get SP1, but only when the team are confident they will have a good experience.

* The remaining languages will RTM in April.
